How Much Does eBay Charge to Sell

Selling on eBay is great way to make some extra cash for those unwanted items. It can even be a great way to make a part-time income. But before you begin to sell on eBay, it is important to understand the costs of selling on eBay.

Selling Fees on eBay
The cost to sell most nonmotor items on eBay is the combination of an insertion fee (10 cents to $4 based on the item as of August 2009) and the final value fee (calculated as a percentage of the purchase price starting at 8.75% for the first $25 and going down from there).

Listing Upgrade Fees on eBay
EBay also offers sellers the ability to make a listing stand out more with listing upgrades. This could include the look of the actual listing page to the ability to highlight a photo. These extra fees are optional and begin at 10 cents.

Reserve Price Fees
If you have an item up for auction that you would prefer to set a minimum on, eBay allows you to do that for a fee that begins at $2.

Sell It Now Fees
EBay offers an option called "Buy It Now" that allows sellers to offer buyers the opportunity to grab an item at a specified-by-the-seller price before the auction ends. This option costs the seller a fee that begins at 5 cents and varies based on the price of the item.

Using Tools to Sell on eBay
EBay offers tools to sellers that make selling wares on eBay more efficient. These include online eBay stores, listing software, and software that manage inventory and buyer information. There are monthly fees for most of these tools that begin at $5, but some tools might be available for free.
